Having a baby is hard enough so if you can do one thing to help prepare yourself for your babies new arrival it would be to pack the perfect hospital bag. It’s one of the essential things you will want to have ready to go when you are nearing your due date. I had a preterm birth so I wasn’t able to be this prepared. So the items I included on the list ore of 10 of the items that I needed the most during my long stay in the hospital.
I’m hoping I can take some of the stress of your plate by providing you with the essentials. You won’t need much as you won’t be in the hospital for long. Also many items that you may have forgot at home the hospital may be able to provide you with.
10 Items You Need To Include In Your Hospital Bag
1. Hair Ties
With myself, I have extremely thick hair so I am partial to the perfect hair tie. They came in handy during my whole stay as it was easier to throw your hair up in a messy bun. In my case, by day 2 my roots started getting really oily and I wanted to cover them up best I could.
2. Chapstick
I’m the type who always carries at least 2 chapsticks in my purse at all times but it’s a good idea to throw some in your bag as well as it can be very dry in the hospital.
3. Slippers
The pregnancy and preeclampsia made my feet swell pretty bad so it was much easier to put on slippers like this pair here then my one pair of shoes that I could actually fit in. It also made it easier when I was transported from my room to the NICU to throw slippers on.
4. A robe
Let’s be honest the hospital gowns are not attractive so it’s a good idea to buy yourself a comfy robe like this one to wear over the gown. It also will make you feel more comfortable with all the nurses, doctors and visitors coming in and out of your room.
5. A notebook
With all the information being thrown at you during your stay it’s a great idea to have a notebook and pen with you to jot down information or questions to ask before you leave.
6. An extra bag
With all the hospital goodies they pack you home with (and if they don’t take them) such as extra diapers, pads, or breast pads you will need an extra bag to toss them in to take home with you. You can also throw in the bag any gifts you received for baby from visitors.
7. Face Wipes
Since you’re not allowed to shower for so many days it’s a great idea to bring along some face wipes to just make yourself feel a little bit clean.
8. Going home outfit
When you can finally take off the hospital gown you will want to put on some comfy clothes to go home in. I suggest loose fitting pants such as yoga pants and a loose shirt.
9. Phone charger
You will be on your phone a lot during your stay so it’s a good idea to pack a phone charger for yourself and dad to be.
10. Nursing bra or loose tank
If your planning on breastfeeding it’s a good idea to pack 1-2 nursing bras or nursing tanks.
I hope my list will help you pack your hospital bag. But don’t sweat if you forget anything as the hospital gift shop should have what you are in need of. Good luck and happy packing!
